I was going to go right back to the hotel room after Mom's open house on Thursday, May 12, and put up a blog post, but I was so tired and wrung out, it's taken me this long to share some pictures. I made a pretty table of memories to honor my mom..Pictures, trinkets, things that were representative of the things she loved. I hope I did her proud.
There was not actually a 'service', just family and friends gathering to honor mom..Sherman's Deli in Palm Springs provided delicious sandwiches, salads and desserts, and Bridget Kraychir, a local real estate agent and friend of my folks, provided her Casita for the gathering in Palm Springs. The pastor who ministered to Mom during her time with hospice came and sang a couple of favorite songs of hers that they would sing together..Mom loved singing...beautiful songs, silly songs, she sang them all as we were growing up.
My brother Raymond put together a beautiful slide show of Mom's life. I spent about 3 weeks digging through our newly moved boxes looking for photos to scan and send to him and with Dad's help, he found a lot of photos at my parent's home. Here is the YouTube link the slide show if you would care to watch:

Hope the link works, it's worth the few minutes!
It was so great to have both my sons, Scott and Dan, there...Scott traveled from Northern CA with his two little ones, Grace Lily and Jackson Scott. Dan was there with his girlfriend Annette. My daughter in law was not able to take any bereavement leave due to her agency's regulations and is very low on vacation days as she has only been with the agency a couple years. So she was missed and I know she missed being there to honor Grammy.
Our cousin Linda and her husband, Fred, travelled from Arizona, my cousin Lanell came from Orange County, and Linda's daughter, Danielle also attended. My dearest friend-sisters, Denise and Eloda were there to support me, as were long time friends Eric and Jen, and their little one, Owen. My brother Raymond's wife, mother in law, and brother in law attended. My sister was there with her sons and their wives.
Anyway, I will post some pictures for you to see...My mom would have loved to have her life so honored by so many who loved her, of course I know that she was there in spirit holding our hands.

Like I said it was a lovely couple of hours, then it was over..A sense of finality, of some closure, for me anyway. I've had my ups and downs since Mom passed in April. I miss her but I know that she is in Heaven with our Heavenly Father, healthy, happy and watching over all of us. That helps, although the heart doesn't feel that way at times. My dad is very lost, they were married over 65 years, so very understandable.
I feel very blessed to have so much love around me, indeed I do!
Thank you for visiting!

It is so very nice t see this post. Honoring your mom and your dad too. You have done all you can do with the issues with your sister. Pray for her. Let God take care of it all. This is written very beautifully and I am so happy I caught it. I need to blog. Busy with the phamily. I am going to try my hand at Premier Designs so I officially signed my contract earlier. Excited and nervous. I really do love their product. The jewelry is lovely and of great quality.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are doing well. Take care. Thank you for sharing your mom with everyone here. Hugs, Anne
