Well, we start fresh, 2010..WOW. That says it all. Many thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound again for graciously hosting our Pink Saturdays, they are truly the highlight of my week!
Straying a bit from the PINK theme, Beverly suggested that we post about a project we hope to accomplish this year. Well it was hard to choose, NOT, but my little office. Seems like a lost cause and one of those rooms you don’t even know where to start.
Let me preface this post by saying that we moved into this home this past June..our previous home had about 2600 square feet including a beautiful office. This home is just under 1400 square feet. We have 3 bedrooms, but the middle bedroom has no doors, just a double doorway opening so it really is the perfect office..the only problem is it’s SMALL. Real small. and I have a huge 3 piece desk that I LOVE but realistically I need to think about can I keep it and what would I use in place of it, so any ideas greatly appreciated!
I like to scrapbook, I have no place for that. I am also a mostly personal use Mary Kay consultant, and all this HAS to fit in this one room. HELP.
As you can see from the pictures, I have big problems:
This is looking into the office from the double doorway…
Stuff!
The closet..I did remove the closet doors and want to hang a cute drapery or curtain..any ideas??
Looking out into the hallway from inside the office.
Well that is my project and I HAVE to fix this mess..I wish I could hire an organizer to come in, but unless my fairy godmother shows up..fuggetaboutit.
Have a wonderful week!

Your office looks grand! Mine looks like the aftermath of a tornado to say the very least and I am not being funny or humorous when I say that! We have much work to accomplish in 2010! I loved the post nonetheless!
ReplyDeleteAs compared to my area..yours looks completely organized. I simply have no room and yet, somehow I have to make room. I yhink I need to maybe start with shelves..when there is no floor space, we have to go from the floor up. With shelves and baskets..and???? with good wishes for both of us to get organized soon..
ReplyDeleteA p.s. I'm so sorry..I forgot to wish you a Happy Pink Saturday.. :).
ReplyDeleteOkay sissy I know you love that big desk but get rid of it and get something more practical. I love that room it is the perfect office....it's that desk it has to GO!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!

Miss you Much

I am sure you know where all your office things are even tho you think it is in a mess. If you better organized, you probably cannot find things. It does not look that bad to me.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to decide what to keep, what to get rid of, I have those issues big time! You need my daughter, she is ruthless, but your world feels cleaner and more organized once she's moved through a room! Get someone who is honest and helpful to help you get a go of organizing and downsizing. Thanks for stopping by my blog and Happy Pink Saturday! Suzie
ReplyDeleteI too am trying to decide if I want to put a curtain over the closet door in my studio. I'll check back to see if anyone has suggestions.
ReplyDeleteWe too moved to a smaller home (2500 to 1400 sq ft). Our home is an older home in a historic district. The rooms are very small. We moved four years ago and I'm still trying to decide what I can live without. The garage is full of things waiting for a decison.
Good luck and I think your office looks great.
Happy Pink Saturday
Ohhh...I am having the same problem here. I want my sewing room but we have 2 computers in the room that is suppose to be my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteI am having an APRON GIVEAWAY. Check it out... http://copingwithacidrefluxandulcers.blogspot.com/
Hayley from Prim it ups is an excellent organizer. she may have many suggestions for you! She has helped me a lot when it comes to organizing (I am terrible - I want to keep everything!)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year
Hi DDiva...I sometimes work with my Organizer/Stager Sister, and the first thing she would do would be to utilize the closet with your drawer units in front of the window and look for some hanging shelving or hangers to use the rod. She would put a screen in your double door leading into the room to create more wall space and a regular door opening...maybe your desk would work in that area as it looks like it's L Shaped. Hope these suggestions give you some ideas. Our work space is so much more fun to work in, when it looks nice and organized. Good Luck and Happy Pink Saturday.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year from our house to your house. Good luck with your organizing project. You go girl! You can do it!

Happy New Year,
Kathy :)
Happy New Year! Looks like my office. I know... what you are talking about!
ReplyDeleteGosh I am surprised there are so many of us in the same boat..I like the idea of putting the large drawers in the closet..should I leave the area under the window empty or maybe some decorative boxes there? Oh maybe a window seat with storage?? a pretty cushion on top to sit on? Hmm..well this is my project this year, at least my first one and I will be posting my progress..thanks so much for ALL your input!
ReplyDeleteHi and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you actually have some decent space. One of our closets I turned into all shelves. I did shelves from one side to the other and lots of clear storge boxes labeled with different things.
Just slowly work at it and know that there is no such thing as a perfect organization system. there are a lot of cool sites dedicated to organization.
Good luck and let us see what you do!
Barb, first off, consider your closet a useful space, not just for storage. You can put your desk (part of it anyway) in there or build a side-to-side desk area, or one from the wall to the side of a shelf that goes floor to ceiling or to the shelf that's there (you can keep the shelf that's there but remove the rod). Hope that makes sense to you! If you don't want to put a desk in there, then you can use the closet to store all the stuff you need, for example the printer. You will need to run cords or get an outlet installed in the closet. So many ideas but hard to give you advice if I'm not there! I recently bought a bunch of plastic see-through shoe boxes, they're a perfect size to put craft supplies in. I am using my spare bedroom closet to store craft supplies and scrapbooking supplies; they're on a resin Rubbermaid shelving unit, each shelf hold 8 boxes. I have a small filing cabinet in there with bigger boxes that hold fabric. It's pretty cramped but it works. Message me of FB if you want to discuss.
ReplyDeleteBarb,
ReplyDeleteYou are getting so many great ideas!
Now get busy or wait till I get out there in March to help you.
xoxox
Sissy
Sissy, I will NOT be waiting until March but you can help me do the finishing touches...better yet bring a trailer out with you lol..
ReplyDeleteHayley, great idea..not sure about the desk in a closet, but a great place for the peripherals etc..i am going to get erid of that big tv and get a smaller flat screen to hang on the wall, that will help. The desk needs to be re arranged somehow to make it work..i tell you I see something different in there every time I glance at the mess..PS Hayley come visit and meet my new neighbor too LOL!
DON'T get rid of your desk set - it's beautiful. You need some floor to ceiling shelving like from Lowes or IKEA to organize your stuff in. Line your closet, too with lots of shelving. I've got Rachel Ashwell curtains covering my closet instead of doors. Any pretty curtains or sheets would do. Our square footage is even less than yours, so I've had to be creative with space as well. Cool that you use Mary Kay goodies~that's fun! Have fun with your challenge :)
ReplyDeleteOh my!
ReplyDeleteI should show you my rooms of stuff and you would feel so much better.
tall shelves where there is now art would help a lot to make room for storage.
With some of the 'stuff' off the lower levers it would give you more room for table surfaces to craft/work on whatever. You can get tall shelves pretty cheap at garage sales or CL. I've lined all my rooms with them. (I'm talking rooms at the shop.)
Well, you did ask for help didn't you? =))
I think it is fun to help organize other peoples things. Then i can leave and i am not there to mess it up again. (and, if they want to throw any things away, I am there to scrounge them up!) Can't believe i just said that. =)
Off to read more.
Think I'm going to like it here. =0)

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions..I am going to keep the desk..I do love it and it holds a lot of things..Barbara Jean had a suggestion about removing some of the art..there is too much art in there for the size of the room. Guess the kids are going to be getting a couple more of my Godard's:-/ The main issue I am finding with this house now is the lack of wall space..its very open which is great but open is not conducive to wall decor.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have a plan to implement first, as soon as I get it up I will post it! Woot!
Again, hugs and thanks to you all!
