My husband, Carl and our dear friend Billy were selected to travel to Washington, DC in June with Honor Flight Nevada! What an honor for these two proud veterans! They traveled from Reno to Washington, DC with almost 50 other veterans on a 4 day whirlwind trip. Their expenses were all paid for thanks to donations and corporate sponsors. A once in a lifetime experience, for sure.
They flew out of Reno very early on Thursday, June 6th. The next few days were filled with visiting different memorials and museums. They traveled to the sites on wonderful luxury buses accompanied by law enforcement motorcycle escorts.
Warning, this post will be picture heavy!

They arrived home in Reno on Sunday, June 9th to a huge welcome home crowd! It was so touching to see the care and love these veterans received. A big surprise to us was each returning veteran was given a Quilt of Valor, handmade for each veteran by the Comstock Lode Quilting Guild. Each veteran's quilt was personalized with their full name, branch of service, years served and date they were presented with their quilt. This quilt will be treasured as long as he lives and then hopefully treasured by our sons.
I hope you enjoyed the journey! I would love to read your comments!

Gives me chills just looking at the pictures

ReplyDeleteWonderful, wonderful honor. They deserved it and much more. I love all quilts and have several, but this a blue ribbon winner.

ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome, they deserve to be honoured!
ReplyDeleteDH's uncle was treated to the same thing in May, but coming from Dayton, Ohio. I'll have to ask him if he received a beautiful quilt!
I do enjoy being able to see the memories in DC since we're so close, although it's been a while since we've done it.
